Blue Ridge Parkway

The Blue Ridge Parkway is just a short, winding drive from Buena Vista. The Parkway opens up into sweeping ridgelines, rolling mountains, and overlooks that feel almost unreal in their beauty. Whether you’re heading up for a sunrise or catching the sunset over layers of blue mountains, the experience feels both peaceful and grand. It’s the kind of place where even a quick drive makes you breathe deeper.

I enjoy taking time occasionally to visit the Buena Vista overlook which is an easy ten minute drive from town. The views are stunning. The sections closest to Buena Vista are not as tourist-heavy as other sections. The parkway offers an easy gateway to nature without taking your whole day or a weekend.

As you drive the Blue Ridge Parkway don’t be afraid to stop at pull-offs and explore the area. There are many gorgeous views that are best soaked up as you take the time to stop and get out of the car. Some pull-offs, like the Indian Gap Rocks, have short trails for you to hike. Make sure to take the time to explore the parkway. Access is easier than many expect. It is often taken for granted how easily accessible it is.
